Side Effects

Are there side effects?

Yes.  The most immediate concerns are liver damage.  Be sure to have your liver checked every 12 weeks if you take statin drugs.  Statin drugs may also be stressful for your kidneys.  The most common side effects are gas, constipation, stomach pain, muscle cramps, and indigestion.  Additionally, many people have experienced arthritis, chest pain, dizziness, nausea, insomnia, bronchitis, rhinitis, and painful swelling of the feet and ankles.  All the statin medications have been linked to painful peripheral neuropathy (a progressive degeneration of both sensory and motor nerves).  There are many other side effects reported, including death, but they are not as common.
